Vermillion River -
One of my favorite places is the Vermillion River. My partner and I enjoy going on canoe day trips through
out the summer and fall. The evergreens are majestic, the sand banks are a sure cure for anyones longing for the
beaches of their favorite holiday spot. You can see Eagles soaring, Cliff Swallows along the banks, and King
Fishers escorting you through the winding curves of the river. The river is home to Otters, Herons, Beavers, Deer,
Bears, Osprey, Fox, and many other beautiful creatures.
We had our photo shoot at one of our favorite spots on the river. This
is one of my favorite shots. It was a fall day, the river was low enough for us to walk in and we had so much fun. This
particular place is a favorite for all of Sweet Water Women.
During some of our down time we all gather at one of our
homes on the river. We play music and sing, cook good food, and laugh a lot.
I am originally from Alberta and I spent a great deal of my down time in B.C..
When I first moved to Ontario I was so home sick. I missed the Mountains, the Lakes, skiing, horseback riding, the bush,
the Ocean in B.C., and the Valley. Then someone took me to Birch Island and Manitoulin Island. For the first time
in years I felt like I was back home. Now, I am proud to call the Greater City of Sudbury, Ontario my home.

When I first arrived here in the summer of 1985, I did not know too many people. As a
single mother of very young children I felt alone, cut off from anything familiar, and I missed the people & land
back home very much. I soon became aquainted with a group of men and women who gathered on a weekly basis to study meditation. They
were loving, kind, gentle beings whom I embraced gladly. They helped me realize that I had been doing a form of
meditation for most of my life and just did not know it. I enjoyed getting to know the individuals in this group over
the next few years and I enjoyed learning more about meditation. Within a number of years I had implemented meditation
into my life on a daily basis. To this day I continue this practise in my life each morning and often in the evening
before I retire to sleep.
I am often asked, "Where do these songs you write come
from?"..."What inspires you to write these songs?" My answer is simple. "I believe the songs come from the very
place I sit within my meditation and the Creator, Mother Earth, Life, Love and Gratitude all inspire me."

I have been singing since I can remember and writing since I was 15 year of age.
The first song that I ever 'received' was about a dog named Kiimo. It was during a very difficult time of my life.
I was on my own, no where to go, no one willing to take me in, and at the time I felt this dog was my only friend. The song
was my gift to Kiimo and the couple who cared for him.
We say, "...received..." when we share about how the music comes because we believe
the music comes from another place, the spiritual place of our Ancestors. You see, when I receive a song it comes
in bits and pieces. Then I sit down with it and I become a co-creator with what I have at hand. I put into
it what I hear within my heart.

Another way I have received songs is in my sleep time. I have a small tape
recorder by my bedside that has been a helpful tool when I have awoken from a deep sleep with part of a song gently
waking me from a dream. These songs are Sacred to me and I am greatful for the gentleness of this process. I believe
we are all capable of wonderful things in this life time. Anything is possible, we just need to believe....in ourselves and
the process.
"Today I am open for a beautiful, gentle miracle to enter into my life!"....are
you?
"We are all related!
We all help each other! This is life!"
